Jean Jacques ALIAMET (Abbeville 1728 - Paris 1788) "Départ pour le Sabat" "Arriveé au Sabat" Two original etchings and engravings dating back to 1755, announced on the October issue of the Mercure de France of the same year, from subjects by David Teniers the Younger (Antwerp 1610 - Brussels 1690). Specimens in the second state of two, with the change of address of the author from rue St. Jacques au Temple to rue Des Mathurins, printed on laid paper bearing the literal watermark of the Papeterie Dupuis Auvergne, typical of French paper production of the eighteenth century and from the beginning of the 19th century, with good margins beyond the imprint of the slab, strongly burnished in a diffuse manner, with some slight folds and a lack on the right edge of the first subject, in some points the imprints of the slab are slightly reinforced on the verso overall in good condition; rare to be found in the original print runs. Beautiful popular scenes full of particular characters and tools related to sabbatical rites. The two original paintings by Teniers the Younger were part of the collection of the Earl of Vence, Lieutenant General of the King and Governor of La Rochelle, when he disappeared they were included in the public sale of his goods in 1761 at a price of five hundred French Lire, from that date no more news has been recorded.
